This one snuck up on me . The Chair Force is still hanging out at Nellis, but I’m guessing that the Blues return to Florida today indicates a return to their home base for few days.

We had some sort of flyover on Wednesday that scared the bejesus out of me. I was just peacefully washing dishes and suddenly it sounded like a freight train was headed for my living room. It was over too fast for me to actually see the planes.

Oh boy. While the Blue Angles are fucking bad-ass, this is an entirely useless display of blatant propaganda and the funds used should have been spent on supplying PPE for those who need it.

You’re in CO? Is that right?

Y ou are certainly not alone in that opinion. The money to support healthcare workers is there, but our government lacks the will to do the job.

I was then, yes.

Some facts I’ve seen floating around is that the pilots need flight hours to stay current, jet fuel is at an all time low, and having planes just sit on runways is really expensive. All their shows have been cancelled for the year but their budget has already been allocated. As I understand it the money has already been “spent”, and the pilots need training so might as well take advantage of it to entertain some people stuck at home? They came over my city a couple days ago and even the brief glimpse I got from my balcony was pretty cool.

It was the National Guard flying several F-16s, I think. Oddly enough the CO ANG did have a demonstration team for awhile during the 50s called the Minute Men. I’m not sure how common a practice that was.

Is it me, or do I live in the only large city in the US that they haven't visited?

Oh sure, when the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds make low passes over Miami everyone cheers. But when the Cuban Air Force flies the same route, everyone freaks out.

Considering the age of the planes , their general maintenance (or lack thereof) and the pilot’s lack of experience in the DAAFAR , I wouldn’t be too sanguine about being beneath them even if we were friendlier .

Interesting! I’ll have to look into that some more. I know that the Thunderbirds grew out of another squadron-based unit called the Acrojets.

Detroit was supposed to get a flyover, so I assume they would include Chicago on that route. Detroit got canceled because of weather. Keep an eye on the Twitters.

Well, there was that one time...

I cannot into Twitter. They did announce that we would get one a while back, but I’ve never seen a firm date.
It makes sense that they would pair us with Detroit though.
And I’m far enough away from the city that I’ll probably only see them if they’re headed to St Louis (or Scott AFB) on the way out.

Nothing over Pittsburgh yet either.
